WHERE TO BUY
    RUSSIAN

The Russian market for kerosene/oil lamp is not developed yet. The russian speaking internet (RUnet) have several web-auction but nothing to buy there. Sometimes they offer lamps but they are obviously quit expensive and even without picture.

There are no flea markets in Russia. You can find some place where antique things are selling. They are called vernisage in Moscow. They are located in Izmailovo and near the Central Art House. I am not sure that it is possible to find really interesting things there. As a rule Russian "masters" fix the parts from different lamps together the make the lamp looking like original.

And of course there are many antique shops. It is necessary to note that the sale runs the articles on commission. Most of the shops are oriented on so-called "New Russians" where the lamps are very expensive, decorated with gold, incrusted, sometimes poor restored. I plan to check list of antique shops and make a review but a bit later. To my mind the far they are located from the centre and tourist places the more interesting they are.

    Regions of Russia
There are a lot of antique shops to have been appeared in the Old Russian cities located in Gold Ring region. The shops buy the antique items from the local people and do their best collecting articles in the old villages. Not bad samples can be found there. In small cities such shops are close either to the museums of Local Lore (Rghev, Khabarovsk), or to the tourist centres (Vladimir).

If you have an information about the antique shops in another city, I kindly ask you to inform us and we shall place it here.

    EUROPE

I usually buy the lamps in small antique shops and on "flea markets". Flea markets work on weekend, but in Paris they do work also on Mondays. You can find it in Internet searching "flea market".

There are also special antique markets, which work on definite schedule in different cities. It is very difficult to visit them because you should need special information about them and plan your visit properly.

They say, there are other sites where you can buy something interesting item but I did not happen to visit them, so-called "sales auction ". In French-speaking countries they are called "HOTEL DES VENTES". If you address to any searching system in Internet you can find a lot of information on condition that you speak French.
